For Vendors, Police Make It Go Time at the Apollo

by Amikka Smith on 10/20/2009

After the death of Michael Jackson this summer, thousands of people swarmed the area in front of Harlem’s Apollo Theater. They came to mourn the king of pop.

Some others came to capitalize on his death — by selling merchandise.

These newcomers joined — and crowded out — vendors who had been selling items on this corner for years. In September, the police moved in.

Nice story! Sometimes it takes getting with the people on the streets to hear real life. Thanks for the human interest story!!! This is why we need to pray.

This story really hits reality Ms. Smith. It lets people know what is the real deal around them. It’s one thing to see these people on the street but another to hear their story.

Great Job!
